Optimising Mill Efficiency with High-Performance Rotating Throats

Among the many factors influencing mill performance, the interface between the primary air (used for drying and conveying) and the ground particles occurs just above the rotating throat. EnFloTech’s design strength lies in mastering how this air meets the particles, significantly enhancing overall mill performance.

The design helps to straighten the velocity vector into the mill, eliminating the risk of recirculating flow that can induce suspended particle clouds. Furthermore, the Venturi ratio and skirted design blanket the non-uniform flow underneath to ensure a uniform velocity of air enters the grinding zone around the periphery.

This design impacts mill performance by:

  • Reducing system resistance, which can be utilised to increase mill throughput or adjust the classifier to achieve a finer PSD at the same throughput
  • Optimising rejection of non-value contributing particles
  • Reducing wear of mill internals
  • Eliminating particle roping effects
  • Optimising PA/PF distribution between fuel pipes
  • Eliminating particle settling inside the fuel pipes (large particle carry-over)
  • Reducing mill power consumption

The rotating throat is a modular component that fits the existing footprint of the mill, requiring no major modifications. The turnaround time for conversion is no more than 56 working hours.

EnFloTech guarantees the following when converting OEM mills with EnFloTech’s High-Performance Rotating Throats (HPRTs):

  • A minimum of 10% improvement in mill performance
  • A 3-year guarantee
