Matla new V4-V5 rotating throat design

CMP is continuously working on improving our designs to meet and exceed customer requirements. When modifying designs, we focus on improving the customer’s installation, maintenance and operational experience. A perfect example hereof is the modified CMP V4/V5 rotating port ring design for Babcock E type mills.

The new CMP V4/V5 rotating port ring design was numerically analysed and the particle behaviour, wear patterns and flow conditions studied using CFD. The new CMP V4/V5 rotating port ring design reduces maintenance and improves mill performance. The design enables the replacement of the gearbox without removing any of the port ring static components.

This enhances time efficiency and reduces the mill down time. The design alleviates wear to the mill spider and casing and can help reduce top ring wear, extending the operational life cycle of these components. Furthermore, the design improves the PF mass distribution and PF particle size distribution between PF pipes, resulting in increased boiler efficiency.

Installing the CMP V4/V5 rotating port ring at Castle Peak Power station (Hong Kong) lead to increased coal throughput, improved PF fineness, reduction in mill motor current and a reduction in mill dP.
